A boutique studio where the sound is the workout

Lapso Studios is a high-class fitness brand in Barcelona, built around cycling, functional fitness, and barre. The energy of each class rides on the audio, the instructor's voice carrying the cues and the music driving the pace.

The rooms work against that. Mirror-lined walls reflect sound across the space, and a hard, reflective box is a difficult place to keep a voice intelligible over a heavy beat.

Reflective surfaces send sound energy ricocheting through the room, and that build-up smears speech and invites feedback. The studio needed level and impact for the music without losing a single word of the instructor's cues.

The solution

Directional speakers, filtered amplifiers, one tuned system

Directional Electro-Voice EVC Series loudspeakers aim energy at the riders and away from the reflective walls, with 12-inch and 8-inch models and 18-inch subwoofers driven by Dynacord L Series amplifiers. The amplifiers' FIR filters shape the response so the music hits while speech stays clean.

A Dynacord MXE5 running SONICUE Sound System Software cancels unwanted frequencies and ties the rooms together, and a custom tablet interface lets instructors run audio and lighting from one screen.
