Grand Hyatt Barcelona, Spain
One five-star hotel — one sound, every zone.
The Grand Hyatt Barcelona is a five-star hotel that needed audio across very different spaces, from a pool and outdoor terrace to a ground-floor bar and a rooftop restaurant on the 19th floor. A hospital next door set a hard limit on outdoor volume. The brief was a single, networked system that holds its sound from zone to zone and stays simple for staff and visiting DJs to run.

A five-star hotel with very different rooms to fill
The Grand Hyatt Barcelona spreads its hospitality across distinct spaces — a pool and its bar, a large outdoor terrace, the ground-floor Sofia Bar and Tapas, and Maymanta, a restaurant on the 19th-floor rooftop. Each space asks something different from the audio, and each hosts events that have to sound right.
The terrace alone carries a heavy events calendar, so presets and reliable control mattered as much as raw quality. One constraint shaped the whole outdoor design — a hospital sits nearby, and the volume can never climb high enough to disturb the patients.
Hold one sound across a pool, a terrace, a bar, and a rooftop
The areas range from open-air poolside to an enclosed restaurant 19 floors up, and each needed even, consistent coverage rather than scattered pockets of sound. The outdoor zones also needed a bit of low end without ever running loud, because the neighbouring hospital fixed a ceiling on the volume.
On top of the audio brief, the system had to be easy. Waiters, heads of department, in-house DJs, and outside providers all had to operate it without training, and every zone had to network back to the older system already in the building.
One Dante network, tuned zone by zone
The design began at the pool, with a perimeter of Electro-Voice EVID-S5.2 outdoor speakers chosen for their IP65 rating and compact, high-quality performance. Indoors, Electro-Voice EVC and EVU cabinets carry the bar and the rooftop restaurant, where the audio was distributed to create a homogenous sound throughout. Dynacord L Series amplifiers and MXE5-64 Matrix Mix Engines drive and route every zone.
Everything ties together over Dante, networking the new zones with the older sound system elsewhere in the hotel into one unified solution. Control runs from Dynacord WPN1 wall panel controllers and iPad-based control, so staff adjust a single zone while DJs and providers step in without a learning curve.

“The idea was to have exterior speakers taking into account the outdoor space but also having a bit of bass. We chose Electro-Voice speakers and Dynacord power amplifiers because of the quality and reliability of the brands.”
One network, an easy room for every event
Each space now holds a consistent sound, from the poolside perimeter to the rooftop views at Maymanta, and the outdoor zones stay within the limit the hospital next door requires. Routing the whole hotel over Dante turned separate areas into a single sound network the team manages as one.
For the people running it day to day, the win is simplicity. Waiters and heads of department raise or lower a zone from a wall panel, and the DJs and providers who pass through can pick up the system and use it in a very easy process.
Consistent sound across every zone
Outdoor volume kept within the hospital's limit
One Dante network across the whole hotel
Wall-panel control for staff
