Leaders in the industry we helped create
We have a passion for sound quality without compromise. This is built upon generations of hands-on professional knowledge all geared towards producing a portfolio of best-in-class speakers and microphones that combine performance, reliability and value. That’s the challenge that drives us forward.
Milestones
Nearly one hundred years, in six moments.
The story, era by era
Six decades-spanning chapters, from a radio bench in Indiana to stadium bowls on five continents.
Lou Burroughs and Al Kahn open a radio service business in South Bend, Indiana. When they build a public-address system for Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne, the system picks up a nickname — his 'electric voice' — and the young company takes it as its name: Electro-Voice.
From its home in Buchanan, Michigan, Electro-Voice builds a reputation for microphones that refuse to die. The Model 664 dynamic earns the nickname 'the Buchanan Hammer' after demonstrations that involved driving nails with it — a durability philosophy that still governs how EV road gear is engineered.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honors the Electro-Voice 642 Cardiline shotgun microphone for advancing sound pickup in film, radio and television — sharply reducing noise and distance effects. It is the first award of its kind given to a microphone in 22 years.
The RE20 Variable-D dynamic becomes the voice of broadcast — a favorite of radio hosts and voice-over studios for its flat response and freedom from bass-boosting proximity effect. Decades on, it remains a first-call studio microphone.
Electro-Voice remains one of the few companies designing enclosures, waveguides and drivers entirely in-house. More than one million ZLX loudspeakers have shipped since 2013; EVERSE brings pro sound anywhere a battery can go; and installations like the 85,000-capacity Estadio Más Monumental in Buenos Aires carry the same engineering to the world's biggest crowds. Electro-Voice and Dynacord are part of the Keenfinity family of brands.
